Really interesting afternoon

We had an excellent 1/2 day trip which combined Ephesus with the Virgin Mary's House, close by. Ephesus is an amazing place if you are in to your ancient history and/or archaeology, over 3000 years old in parts and some of it really well preserved/restored. Our guide was also excellent - highly recommended

Touring Ephesus

Booking with About Ephesus Tours was easy. They explained in detail exactly what the tour would include. We were picked up in Kusadasi at the cruise ship port and had a wonderful tour with Hulya who was knowledgeable in history. She also shared some interesting anecdotes with us. Hulya gave us the freedom to tour at our own pace, but she used the time we had very efficiently. She and the driver coordinated our stops so that we could avoid crowds and make the best use of our time. The minivan we traveled in was immaculate and we felt quite safe being driven by our driver. Lunch at an outdoor garden restaurant was quite pleasant and the food was freshly made. The tour was a good value compared to others.

We spent 2 weeks in Turkey and Greece and the Ephesus Tour was definitely the best thing we did on our trip.Ms. Gonca our tour guide was amazing. She had so much knowledge and could answer all of our questions. The Mercedes van was so comfortable and lunch was a real treat at a local restaurant where our guide eats also.We will book another tour with this group and will tell all our friends who travel about them

What a Great tour company to work with. From the time we met our guide Gonca and got in the Mercedes Van to the time we arrived back to the ship. We met Gonca early, which was great because we beat all the Ships tour buses and stayed ahead of them the entire day. we missed all the heavy crowds. Going with About Ephesus Tours is a must do, forget the tour buses and there crowds, you are on their schedule. Gonca let us decide where we wanted to go and where we wanted to stop. The Lunch that was included at the Rug and Carpet dealer was the best. By the end of our tour we had already exchanged Face book and e-mail addresses and gotten a response the day after our return. Gonca knew her history and was able to answer all of my questions.

Donna and I could not have been more happy with our excellent tour of Ephesus. Filiz was marvelous. Her english language skills were superb and her knowledge of the history was top notch. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the tour- the Virgin Mary's house, Ephesus including the terrace houses, lunch at the carpet store, the carpet making education, and the stop at the pottery shop. We also appreciated the gift bag given to us by Feliz at the start of our day. Feliz was waiting for us as promised at the cruise dock. The van was very comfortable and our driver (Boresh??) was excellent, never making us wait and we always felt very safe. We will recommend your company to anyone visiting Turkey! Please checkout ''https://ephesusbreeze.com'' and ask for Filiz as a tour guide. You won't be disappointed! The McDowellsState College, Pennsylvania

Ephesus

We booked a half day tour of Ephesus arriving in Izmir by cruise ship. It seemed unbelievable value compared with the tours arranged by the cruise line. There was only the 2 of us and had a brilliant time. Our tour guide Selcuk was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. He guided us round the Ephesus site to avoid the worst of the crowds. The Terraced Houses were the highlight and so good that only private tours allowed in there. We also visited a ceramics factory as well as lunch at the carpet village. This was most pleasant having lunch with the village animals around us. We learnt a lot and cannot thank Selcuk and our driver enough for giving us a memorable day. This was much more than a half day tour and much appreciated. Many thanks all round.

Probably our best tour guide during our Mediterranean Cruise

No disappointment with About Ephesus Tours. We organized this private tour for four people several months before the date of our cruise. Although we disembarked from the ship a bit early, there was Goncha (Rosie) smiling and holding our name sign at the port gate. We were escorted to the immaculate Mercedes van where our driver was waiting. Rosie is a well educated, modern Muslim young woman with perfect English. She has a delightful manner and put us all at ease immediately as she dove into the history of her beloved Kusadasi. She is very knowledgeable on both archeology and religion - both Christian and Muslim. We started early and managed to stay ahead of the crowds throughout the day. We had left the tour up to the company as none of us had visited this part of Turkey and we wanted to see it all. And we did. Would highly recommend this company, very professional and well organized. We were even able to get rid of all our Turkish Lira (at an extremely fair exchange rate) when we paid our bill with some US cash and the balance in Lira at the end of the tour. If you don't want to do the usual tourist stuff of visiting rug factory or leather store, just let them know and you can avoid. However, the leather store has beautiful items at very favorable prices (negotiating very necessary and expected!). Comfort stops were well selected and very clean. Excellent value for both guide and driver. No disappointment, highly recommend.

Ephesus & House of Mary

Any visit to this part of Turkey should include a visit to Ephesus. This was my third visit and each time, I see more than I did the last time. Tour guides in Turkey are well educated and informed and all are easy to understand. This trip, I also visited the House of Mary, or maybe the House of Mary or could have been the House of Mary. It's important to note that the little house is a rock building built centuries after the mother of Jesus would have lived in the area. Never the less, it's a pleasant stop, plenty of devoted people lighting candles and posting prayers on the rock wall. There is a refreshment area, a few shops, a post office if you wish to mail a postcard. Ephesus is the real treat. It's easy to imagine Greeks and Romans walking the stone paths or sitting on the communal latrines. The Greeks and Romans are gone but Ephesus continues to surprise as new things are discovered and old ideas are changed. The Terrace Houses, a separate tour is worth a visit. Ephesus is built on stones, it should be noted that people who have trouble walking will find it challenging to walk around, especially in the Terrace Houses where there are many steps an active archeological dig. Do NOT wear flip flops or delicate sandals. I've visited Ephesus in both the Spring and Summer. It is HOT in the Summer and shade is not available so dress accordingly and carry plenty of water. For fun photos, bring a few kitty treats. Ephesus abounds with cats. The Turkish people are fairly tolerant, even kind, to cats. There is a group which neuters the cats when the funds are available. If you have concerns about the cats welfare, your guide can tell you how to contribute to the animal welfare group. My only gripe with the organized tours is the push to see the "last" stop on the tour, a cultural experience in their words, a rug sales visit in reality. If you have never seen Turkish rug making, by all means, go but the push to sell you a rug is overwhelming. On my last trip, I thanked my bus driver and tour guide, tipped them, skipped the rug show and made my way back to my ship.

We were on a cruise that stopped at Kussadassi Turkey and had booked a tour online. We were greeted on the pier by "Betty" and were taken by privat car to the upper gate of Ephesus. Betty explained local history and landmarks on the way to Ephesus as well as walked with us through Ephesus. She was so knowlegable and interesting. After Ephesus she took us to a rug "college" where we learned the weaving process and history, then had a typical turkish meal that was delicious! Then we were returned to the pier with time to spare. I can't say enough about "Betty" and Ephesus tours! It was a fabulous experience.

Testimonials & Reviews

Eight of us on 12 night Mediterranean cruise arranged a tour through Ephesus Tours and were fortunate enough to be met at the cruise terminal by Gonca Kizilhan, a.k.a. Rosie, the most wonderful tour guide in all of Turkey! She was so knowledgeable, was able to answer any question asked of her and had the most pleasant personality.”
