Wonderful private tour
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

My friend and I arranged a private tour from Izmir about 36 hours prior to our visit in November. We emailed and received immediate reply. A quick phone call followup and everything was arranged. Our car and guide Arzu Altun met our flight. Arzu is a charming young woman with a pleasant personality and very good knowledge. I had been to Ephesus two years ago on a shore excursion but I learned so much more from Arzu. We spent nearly 4 hours at Ephesus --- she did not rush us through and gave really good detailed information. Listening to some of the other guides with ship groups, it was clear that she knows her history! The terrace houses are amazing -- don't miss them even though they have an extra admission fee. We had lunch at a carpet school/factory, but the sales staff was not pushy. We were not in the market for carpets although the prices seemed good. We did ask for a specific shopping stop which Arzu arranged. It was a good value for a full day with private guide and driver. I would definitely recommend both this company and our guide.

We took a 4 hour tour of Kusadasi and Ephesus in late November when visiting on a cruise ship. Took a small group tour and thought it was excellent. Would recommend this company.

Tour of Ephesus with About Ephesus Tours
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

We had a wonderful tour with Mrs. Filiz. Our itinerary included the Virgin Mary's House, the old city of Ephesus, the Terrace Houses, and lunch/tour at a carpet factory. We were a party of 8 that includes a soon to be 90year old and another person is her 80's. Mrs. Filiz was especially very conscious of making sure that whenever possible our older participants were able to sit when fatigued. When they decided not to participate in the tour of the Terrace Houses, she located a place in the shade that they could sit and wait for the rest of us. She was very knowledgable of the subject, and very easy to understand. Our vehicle was very comfortable, and felt very comfortable with the driver also. When he realized that our party included older people, and shorter people, he made sure there was a stepstool to assist in getting into the vehicle. On the whole we were very pleased with our day with About Ephesus

Tour of Ephesus

We booked a private tour through About Ephesus tours and had a wonderful experience. We had a private tour in a very nice Mercedes van and our tour guide Arzu was waiting for us when we got off our cruise ship. We only had to pay a $20 deposit and then we were able to pay the balance by credit card after the completion of the tour. We received a nice gift bag and we got to see everything we wanted to see, the ancient city of Ephesus, Mary's house, St Johns Basilica, the temple of Artemis, the temple houses, etc. You just tell them what you want to see and they will quote you a fair price. Our guide Arzu and driver were excellent and email communication prior to the trip was excellent as well. I highly recommend this company and will use them again if we have the pleasure of visiting Turkey again in the future.

A 5 Star Tour: Great Guide
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

We were met on time at the cruise ship terminal by Ayse for our private tour and had a running commentary about Kusadasi and Ephesus. Her knowledge was exceptional and not not boring. The Ephesus/Terraced Houses sites were magnificent and we were given as much time as we needed to explore, take photos, and listen to the history. By being fairly early we missed most of the crowds but by the time we left the site it was packed with large tour groups. Make sure to look for the cats all over the site and ask why they are there. We had a beautiful lunch at the carpet making school and a demonstration with the usual sales pitch. None of our group of four minded the demonstration as we got to see the various sizes, patterns, and types of threads used, very educational. We were dropped off at the Bazzar near the ship and enjoyed some shopping time. We had a half day tour which lasted almost 6 hours and was a highlight of our Mediterranean cruise. We would recommend this tour company as a 5 star, couldn't be any better.

Great feature packed day

Ephesus is sensational so go. The tour was very good. As per most tours, I felt that you get a much better and tailored experience in a personalised tour. The service provided was exceptional. Excellent quality transport, extremely knowledgeable and pleasant guide. The tour packed in a lot in one day. It does include the obligatory visit to a carpet shop, but without any pressure to purchase.

Superb tour of superb site

My wife and I recently enjoyed a private tour of Ephesus with Ms. Gonca (of the "About Ephesus" tour company). The tour was excellent! Ms. Gonca was delightful: Knowledeable, cordial, helpful, efficient - and, her command of English was superb. The early pickup for the tour was good in that we were able to get to Ephesus before the crush of crowds there, as well as before the main heat of the day. While Ms. Gonca kept us moving along, we never felt rushed. The pace she set was a good one. The brief walk-through and overview of the Ephesus Museum was quite useful in helping us to best use our time there. The tour unfolded as we had asked - namely, that we spend time in the Terrace House Museum at Ephesus, and forego a visit to the House of Mary, as well as a visit to a carpet factory (though we did see a bit of this, but only at our request.) So, there were no unexpected surprises or twists in the tour we requested. The setting of the lunch stop was very pleasant, and the food satisfactory.Ms. Gonca added a nice, personal touch to the whole tour - and all of us were delighted with her. She is clearly enthusiastic, yet professional in her approach.About Ephesus provided us a tour that was good value for money. We would certainly recommend "About Ephesus" to others, and we would of course recommend Ms. Gonca. It was a pleasure to enjoy the magnificence of the ruins at Ephesus, and to do so in the hands of a skilled and personable guide. Also, by the way, in our many email communications leading up to our booking of the tour in Ephesus, the replies were always quick and informative. My wife and I have been to Turkey twice, now -- and, after this visit to Ephesus, we are talking about yet another visit.

First-Class Tour; Super Hero Guide!

This tour was one of the highlights of our entire trip around the eastern Mediterranean. Goncan (pronounced "Gonjah"), who also is known as "Mrs. Rosie" was absolutely terrific from start to finish. Highly knowledgeable, passionate about her subject, clear in her explanations, and genuinely caring for her clients, Gonca deepened our understanding and appreciation of this truly world class site. Other reviewers have accurately described the basic itinerary of the approximately 5 hour tour, but my wife and I would like to add a couple of comments. First, regarding the carpet demonstration, we agree with Paula S. that there was no high pressure to buy and that the demonstrations and explanations were themselves quite interesting. Considering that some others had a different experience, we think it might depend on who your guide is. Gonca made it clear to us that we could skip the carpet demonstration after lunch, although she pointed out the value of the school that keeps traditional crafts alive, and she was right. Here, as elsewhere, she was completely solicitous of our wishes. Finally, we were sincerely moved by an incident involving Gonca that day. We were proceeding down the spectacular ancient boulevard linking the summit of Ephesus to the Terrace Houses and beyond them to the grand Library facade. The way was crowded, and at the old remains of the gate to the lower part of the city a mass of tourists had gathered. One of them, a sizable young man, had climbed up on one of the cracked pillars of the gate and was gesturing and posing for pictures. Of all those present, including other guides (many older and more experienced), it was Gonca alone who fought her way through the crowd and boldly ordered the man off the antiquity, upbraiding him for his thoughtless endangerment of himself, others, and the ancient gate itself. Though much larger than she, the man, embarrassed, immediately obeyed. What a telling moment - so revealing of Gonca's commitment to the treasures she loves, and her willingness to put herself on the line for her principles. What else could any traveller to an ancient land wish for.If you ever have the good fortune to visit the remarkable wonder that is Ephesus, be sure to engage the wonderful Gonca as your guide. It will be a memorable experience.

Ephesus is a major gem!

Lots of people, including myself, think that archaeological sites/attractions are just a pile of rocks, and that's true, unless, as I've learned, you have a great tour guide, which we found with our tour guide Ceyla and Ephesus Tours. I could not have been more wrong to count out the magnificent ancient city of Ephesus or the stunning Kusadasi region, a true gem along the Aegean coast I'd recommend to anyone. Besides for the stunning location of being on the Aegean coastline, the grandeur of the ancient city of Ephesus, the delicious local food spots and the interesting stops like the House of the Virgin Mary (Very cool even for a non-religious person like me) and a carpet-making facility, I feel like I really saw a side of Turkey that would be impossible to see in just a day without a great guide, and I loved what I saw!The natural beauty of the port town and surrounding areas could be compared with South Africa around Cape Town, all the beauty of the coastline with the fruit trees and mountainous land you expect to see in Tuscany. Our tour was with Ceyla and from the very beginning we knew it was going to be a wonderful day. She was incredibly passionate about the archaeological sites, art history and Turkey in general which really helped to get us into it too. The car picked us up and took us to the House of the Virgin Mary, which you can't get to without a car. On the ride over, she explained to us some geographical information about Turkey and the Aegean coastline region and some basic history on the sites. She let us do the site on our own and met up with her when we felt we sufficiently saw everything, which I think is much better than following around a tour guide with a raised umbrella all the time. Next, we made our way to Ephesus and spent a large portion of the day exploring the area which was absolutely mind-blowing. I have seen many ancient ruins from the pyramids in Egypt to the pyramids in Mexico and Ephesus really takes the cake for well-preserved, mind-bogglingly huge city with an incredible history that deserves more attention than it gets. She taught us a lot about the main attractions and also lesser known details about forgotten pieces of history among the ruins. We spent maybe 2 hours there and then took a trip to a local place, very near to the site of the Seven Sleepers, serving traditional snacks and also got to see how the community women cook them. Ceyla answered all of our questions about ancient Turkey, yes, but also gave us her perspectives on modern Turkey which we found fascinating. From there, we saw briefly the Temple of Artemis (not much left) and then headed over to the restaurant where we ate a deliciously organic, locally grown lunch. Lots of olives and tzaziki sauce! Ceyla read our fortunes from the coffee grounds of the Turkish coffee which I had always heard about and I'm not just saying this because my fortune was good, but it was a wonderful way to end the day. Finally we got to see a demonstration of how silk is harvested and rugs are woven by a place educating village women in the ancient art and giving them the supplies necessary to keep the trade alive. We weren't interested in buying and weren't pressured in the least to do so.Besides being completely exhausted, it was a wonderful day and we could not stop saying enough good things about this stop on our cruise and also Ceyla. We really fell in love with Turkey and Kusadasi port/Ephesus were a must see after Istanbul for a better, more well-rounded perspective on the country and the culture.

Highlight of our Mediterranean cruise

Our full day Ephesus tour included visits to the House of the Virgin Mary, the Ancient City of Ephesus, Terrace Houses, as well as a wonderful lunch and a very interesting (no pressure) carpet demonstration. The highlight of the day was the wonderful job done by our tour guide, Gonca. She was absolutely delightful - very knowledgeable, professional and fun. Our group of 16 (most retired teachers) gave her and this entire day an A+! We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone stopping the Port of Kusadasi.

Testimonials & Reviews

I booked online with Ephesus Breeze as an alternative to the cruise ship sponsored excursions for a one day tour for myself and my two teenage sons. Booking was simple. We paid a small deposit via paypal, and then the balance in cash in US dollars at the end of the tour. The fee included all entrances.”
