Ephesus / Aphrodisias Tour with Mehmet Ficili
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

We went on a full-day tour of Ephesus and Aphrodisias with Mehmet and couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable, passionate or well-spoken guide! His explanation and historical expertise allowed us to see the ruins in whole new way. At the end of the (long) day I was sad to say goodbye. If you're looking for a knowledgeable expert, contact Mehmet. You won't be disappointed!

We booked an excursion on www.aboutepshesus.com. Our booking procedure was very easy and all the e-mail correspondences were very quick. When we got off the cruise we were met by our guide Ismail Keser and were taken to Ephesus with a very clean mini bus.We were blown away by the beauty and the history that awaited us there. Our guide was very friendly and extremely knowledgable about everything. His love of history was apparent in his excitement of showing us around. He knew the best spots to take photos and spent extra time on the areas that were of personal interest to our group. We have also visited the Terrace Houses . It is a must see! It gives you so much insight into the every day life of the people who lived in that time. After all our sightseeing we were taken to a rug factory for a traditional lunch. The food was fantastic! After our lunch we were given a little demonstration about the rugs and how they make them. It was very interesting and they were not heavy handed on the sales pitch. All in all it was one of the best days of our cruise! we definitely recommend this tour and the company!!!

Beyond Expectations

We had a bespoke half day Izmir Tour and A Full Day Ephesus Tour ( Ruins & Terrace Houses), Mary's House, St. John's Tomb, Lunch and Carpet Showroom visit. Izmir Airport transfers were included. Our MB van was comfy and bottled water was readily available from the cooler. We were given brochures and a souvenir welcome loot bag. For the price we paid, compared to the tours and ticket entry inclusions, About Ephesus (aka Osman Tourism) is truly value for money. Our guide, Ali Çamurcu was very hospitable, helpful and eager to please despite us having trouble understanding his English and having to listen to History Class under the heat of the sun. Had fun buying carpets at the showroom. Just a tip for Osman Tourism, a sunscreen spray and umbrellas in the car for use in Ephesus would sure be a treat for your guests. (Cold towels too, if it won't be too much to ask). You guys are doing a good job!

The Most Enjoyable and informative Tour

We were a party of 4 and were met by our tour guide Gonca on time at the ship with a well appointed Mercedes van. Gonca was extremely knowledgeable with a university degree in history. She was thoroughly entertaining and was very flexible with scheduling the day which included tours of the ruins of the city and the apartments of the wealthy Romans (a must). We also had a great lunch and demonstration at a carpet manufacturer and toured a produce market and an olive oil and spice store (our choices). All of the admissions and the lunch were included in the reasonable price. Everything about this tour was first class and truely personalized. Gonca had mentioned that Elton John had performed at the theater in Ephesus which my daughter did not believe. What a pleasant surprise to receive an email later that evening with the youtube links to show the concert. Talk about service over and above. We are still talking about this tour.Robert SolowBell Canyon, Califrnia

Take plenty of water , sunscreen & a hat or umbrella !Wonderful , amazing place , but go as early as possible , as there is very little shade , & it gets extremely crowded. Not suitable for wheelchairs or if you have mobility problems unfortunately. Also, make sure you use the WC before going in - there are none until you come out , & it's a big site !!

Mehmet Ficili was an excellent tour guide in Turkey

We checked Trip advisor and Mehmet was recommended by several people. We paid $480 US for 4 of us, not knowing if this was good or bad but knowing we would get a good tour. Mehmet was easy to reach via e-mail and met us at the cruise ship port. He had rented an air conditioned van that seated about 10 people for us. He had water for the day and also towelettes for our convenience. He was a wealth of information and took us to the House of Mary, Ephesus, the Congress Homes within Ephesus, and St. John's church. He would have taken us to the chuch of the Virgin Mary but we were running out of time. In between, he took us to a great Turkish restaurant and we feasted. This was all part of the package. He then took us to a leather house where we witnessed a fashion show drinking Apple tea and we ended at the port doing a bit of shopping. It was the best tour of our cruise. My family would highly recommend this very delightful, pleasant and educational guide.

This company way out-performed what the cruise line shore excursion

Why? First of all- Muge was wonderful. She met us at an alternate location after our ship arrived early. Her insight and pleasant manners made her a joy to travel with. The tour itself was outstanding and was the best of 7 tours we took during our cruise. Second- Our tour, which cost less than what the cruise ships charge by a significant margin, included the cost of admission to Ephesus and the Terrace Houses (which by themselves were the best of any ruins seen in Turkey, Greece and Italy). The cruise ship tours just skip the Terrace Houses. Perhaps because of sheer volume of people the cruise tours skip the TH- - but by using this company, you'll get a much better glimpse of the area and the history and the reasons why the 'port' is now so far inland.Carpet sales- you do get a nice lunch at the end and a good presentation of how carpets are made. we didn't feel any pressure and enjoyed learning more about the importance of Turkish rugs to their heritage and the declining number of women involved in rug making in Turkey. If you are going to Ephesus and want to have a good tour- this is the one. Do it.

12 days and 9 major Mediteranean cities. We decided to take the risk, be adventuresome and book some private tours based on Tripadvisor traveler reviews. This was one of the best travel decisions we ever made. Milge (Lily) was waiting for us when we got off the ship. She quickly took us to our minivan and driver while discussing what we wanted to see...and making excellent suggestions. Honestly we could not have kept the pace of most of the bus tour groups we saw in Ephesus. Milge was informative and perceptive of our limitations. She even got us through the amazing Terrace house! We especially enjoyed the lunch in the country while getting to know a little more about life in Kusadasi. This tour service is definitely the best use of your time and money!

Oh my gosh! Our Ephesus tour with Elcin was so over-the-top. Easy to book ahead online with only $20 Pay Pal deposit. Great air conditioned car and driver drove us to and from our ship in Kusdasi Port. Elcin speaks great English, actually lives in Izmir and professionally arranged for us to get thru all the sights with the car ready to pick us up as soon as we were done at each location. This was hard to do with 7 ships in port on the same day!. We visited the house of the Virgn Mary, The Temple of Artemis, Ancient City of Ephesus, Terrace Houses (all admissions, parking, car, gas, driver, English speaking licensed guide and lunch included in our $65 per person rate). We only had a group of four but we were treated like celebrities. We were even treated to a fashion show just for our party at the Kircilar Leather Factory located away from town. Elcin joined us for a traditional multi-course Turkish lunch outside on the beautiful country grounds of a Rug Factory where we viewed the process of taking the silk from a cocoon to make silk rugs. No pressure to buy, just a great education. We were also guests at the 100% hand-made, as it was 500 years ago, Ephesus Ceramic Production Center where we saw a potter create a vase and lid. We also viewed the artists creating traditional patterns before the glazing process. It was wonderful having such special attention. We loved how we were treated by Elcin, her driver and all the Turkish people who hosted us. 'tesekkur ederim' (Thank you)

Great tour of Ephesus with Gonca

We were in Ephesus recently while on a 12 day Mediterranean cruise. Having been to Rome, Pompeii, Athens and israel on the trip with our 4 children we were starting to feel "ruined out". We emailed and asked if we could modify our itinerary for the day and the answer was "no problem". Gonca was our guide for the day and she was great. She was very knowledgable, great with our kids and eager to make sure we had a great day.In the end we decided to see the most significant ruins (and we're glad we did). We also went horse back riding, to a pottery business and had an outdoor lunch at a rug business. Overall a great day.

Testimonials & Reviews

Our Guide brought Ephesus to life for us & was extremely informative; we even had people listening to him & complimenting him on being a much better guide than theirs from other companies. He guided us expertly to be at the front of the queues & out of the heat as quickly as possible.”
