Great tour guide - Ms. Gonca
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

I think this tour is highly dependent on the guide you get ... We requested and were assigned to Ms. Gonca. A friend had used this same company and guide and had a great experience. Our guide and driver were very friendly and knowledgeable. Ms. Gonca laid out the schedule and gave us some options as to the way we could see things. We went to Mary's house first and we were glad we did. As we left, there were a TON of tour buses pulling up. Ephesus was amazing. We felt like we received enough, but not too much information while we were there. There were some other guides just rambling on and on at each and every pillar. Ms. Gonca was happy to spend more or less time at each area dependent on our questions and interest level. Her English is very, very good and she even communicated well with our 8 year old. As far as the pottery stop, we were given the option to stop or not and we chose to stop as we had time and our child was interested in seeing how it was made. After we saw how it was made walked through the over priced shop for about 90 seconds, we were on our way. We did not feel pressured to buy anything. The rug stop (also where we had lunch) was also interesting mostly to the kids. We had been in Turkey a couple of weeks at this point and were used to people trying to sell us rugs so we said no firmly and walked away. The lunch was bearable. It was at the rug place and was not very good turkish food. If they had taken us to a great local lunch place, I would have given them 5 stars.

Excellence in Ephesus

We were in Kusadashi for the day and had booked with About Ephesus in advance of our cruise. We had an absolutely fabulous time! Our guide, Gonca, was wonderful. She was personable, knowledgeable, very well spoken and her passion for her work and her country was evident. Gonca kept us one step ahead of the crowds all day which we greatly appreciated. Following our trip to the House of the Virgin Mary she took us to the ruins of Ephesus and a visit to the Terrace Houses. This turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Gonca's descriptions brought the ruins alive for us and gave us an understanding of what life must have been like when Cleopatra visited.Lunch was fantastic as we ate al fresco under an arbor of trees and enjoyed a feast prepared for us. We had resisted a visit to the carpet factory but this too turned out to be a most interesting and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend About Ephesus, and Gonca. You will learn a lot about Turkey, both past and present. Thanks for a great day!

What a wonderful tour. Our guide Gerkun had a wealth of information and nothing was too much trouble. He got us back to the ship in plenty of time and took us to a family owned carpet factory/farmhouse for lunch. Ephesus is the most amazing place we have seen (including Pompeii). The terrace houses are a must for anyone visiting Ephesus (extra cost but well worth it)

Our private Ephesus Tour booked through https://ephesusbreeze.com was outstanding. Ms. Selda, our tour guide was the best. Her English, communication skills and the knowledge of history were very good. She was very professional, took time time to explain things and pleasant in her conversations. She is a good Ambassador for Turkey. The driver was good and the private van was clean. Eighteen of us enjoyed the tour. I recommend the tour everyone.Leo Martis

About Ephesus day tour

Fantastic day tour of Ephesus and House of the Virgin Mary during our day stop into Izmir port as part of our NCL cruise on the Jade. Very easy to organise and prompt replies regarding itinerary and schedules from the admin team. We opted for a private tour for our party of 3, were met by our fabulous guide Ali and off we went. In addition to the places of interest, we also took in a ceramic store, rug makers and had a traditional lunch. Would definitely use this company again, very attentive, great customer service and excellent value for money. Thanks Ali!

Informative and enjoyable with a great guide

Tour Guide: Taylan Uğur Myself and a friend organised this tour a few weeks in advance as we were stopping in Kusadasi as part of a cruise. The tour was private and conducted in an air-conditioned mini-van with leather seats which was modern, clean and comfortable. Taylan quickly tracked us down at the exit of the port and we headed for Ephesus, we also stopped at a Turkish Bath which was extra (Not recommended as this is clearly a tourist trap and does not have anything to do with this quality operator). The tour also included a traditional lunch and visit to a carpet manufacturing co-operative, as you would expect these people are expert at convincing tourists to buy a Turkish carpet. On this front I advise you to at least do some basic research on type and price in your home market just in case you are weakened into a purchase :)Back to the tour itself, Taylan was a great ambassador for his country, his English was very good and he was a very friendly, good looking young guy. The quality of his knowledge and presentation throughout the walking guide of Ephesus and the terrace houses was first rate and I can not recommend him enough. if you are planning a trip to Ephesus then don't pass on the opportunity to organise a tour with either Taylan or Gonca whom did all the organising for us as she was already booked on the day on question. Thanks Taylan and thanks for your clear communication and organisation Gonca.

Awesome Ephesus Tour

My daughter and I booked a private day tour of Ephesus after consulting Tripadvisor. It was the highlight of our shore excursions while travelling on the cruise ship NCL Jade. Mr Teleri was the most helpful, courteous and efficient agent I had the pleasure of dealing with. Our private car was very luxurious and our guide Zelda was waiting for us, as promised with our driver (Ghurkan?). Zelda was very knowledgeable and passionate about Turkish culture and history, and a delightful person. Nothing was too much trouble for her or our driver. We visited the Ephesus ruins, the House of the Virgin Mary, and the Terrace Houses. A traditional lunch was included and of course, a visit to the rug factory. All this for cheaper than it would have been for a bus organised by the cruise ship. It was unbelievably good value, given the distance, service and a whole day sightseeing. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Connie C

Awesome tour company and tour guide

We booked a privateday trip tour to Ephesus for my wife and 10 month old after reviewing Tripadvisor reviews, and it was one of the best trips we made during our time in Turkey. Mr. Istemihan Teleri, the agent, was very prompt in answering any questions we had regarding the tour. He advised us the best days to go and booked our flights from Istanbul to Izmir. A few days before our trip Mr. Teleri sent an email said that our flight back to Istanbul was canceled and he quickly provided our options. He made the booking process very easy and assured us we were in best hands. When we landed in Izmir we were greeted by Arzu, a young gal who studied tourism while in college. Arzu was very knowledgeable about the history and cutluture of the region, pointing out various points as we drove down to Ephesus. At Ephesus, she was kind enough to hold are 10 month old for most of the time, as we walked through the historic sights.Lunch provided by the tour was awesome, kabobs and a variety of salads. She advised us drinks were part of the meal. Just one note with regards to the drinks: Drinks are expensive, and they don't tell you the price nor do they tell you that you need to pay in dollars or euros. We ended up paying $10 for 1 local beer and a can of Sprite, which was quite expensive considering a beer cost 5 TL and sprite cost 2TL.Other than that, the tour was great, they do take you to a leather and carpet place where they try to sell you some goods, but they are friendly and don't pressure you to buy anything.I highly recommend using About Ephesus tours, and will definitively used them again on our next trip to Turkey.

Excellent tour

We decided to try a private tour of Ephesus instead of that offered by the cruise ship. We were not disappointed. The price was less than the ship's tour. We had a private, air conditioned car with private guide. No crowded, noisy bus! Our guide was very knowledgeable about Ephesus and stayed with the two of us for the whole tour, and lunch was included. It was the highlight of our cruise.

Testimonials & Reviews

Our Guide brought Ephesus to life for us & was extremely informative; we even had people listening to him & complimenting him on being a much better guide than theirs from other companies. He guided us expertly to be at the front of the queues & out of the heat as quickly as possible.”
