Ok but not great

We booked whole day private tour for family of four. The driver and tour guide was on time, the van is nice and comfortable. During the whole tour we felt the tour guide was just recite us something she memorized from a book, afraid we have any question to interrupt her. We can tell she only want to get the job done and want to ended it quick. Once we were at the sight there was a higher flat area, kind like a stage, we asked her what that was, and we want to take a look. She said sure. We went up while she stay there and wait. We wew glad we did. It was a wonderful view of a huge market place that we almost missed. Our tour ended at 12:00. We asked why ended so soon since it was a full day tour, she said if we want she can take us to the leather shop and pottery place. Since we were already been to the carpet shop we don not want have another hard sell experice. We went back to the cruise.

Gonca and About Ephesus= extremely professional

Gonca is awesome- not to mention she's so charming and gorgeous! About Ephesus was always very professional even from the beginning. From the first email request I sent, I received a response immediately. They were early and awaited us in the parking lot. The drive to Ephesus was amazing as we were explained Turkish culture and history. Gonca made sure everyone stayed awake to listen. We had lunch midday at one of the local Turkish restaurants. Gonca was a pleasant and wonderful guide. I highly recommend this company! They were really affordable as well. The only part what we did not enjoy was that we spent more time at the carpet manufacturing company than at any of the other sites. However, it's a cool process how they manufacture the carpets. I hear the carpet company tour is required by Turkish government, so you can just go along and enjoy the journey. Even still A+

Rivals Pompei

I visited the ruins of Ephesus as part of aGreek islands tour. Ephesus was the highlight. My advice is to. Forgo all the tourist trappings and hawking of wares, although you will find very very cheap souvenir gifts here, just remember to bargain. What one dealer wanted thirty Euros for I bought for six. However, the main reason for coming here are the ruins which are spectacular. Having seen the Thetre of Dionysus on the Acropolis and the theatre at Pompeii, Euphasus' amphitheater trumps them in so far as being basically the same as it was, not rebuilt. Seats twenty thousand, that big. Also the library (largely rebuilt) Is noteworthy.

23rd June 2012-private tour to Ephesus

We are 4 New Zealanders who booked a private tour to Ephesus with Osman Tourism (at About Ephesus Tours). We arrived by cruise ship and were met on time at 1pm by Ceyla Ergon and driver. Had a very spacious mercedez van with air.cond and very comfortable seats. As it was just over an hours drive to Ephesus, Ceyla sat in the back with us and told us alot about Ephesus and the history of the region. She was a native of Izmir and spoke excellent English and made our afternoon really enjoyable and informative. We were very lucky, as we arrived at Ephesus before the tour buses and she started the tour at the exit so there was hardly anyone around and we were the first to visit the Terraced Houses so were able to take lots of photos and hear about the houses without hoards of people around us. This was our 4th visit to Turkey but had never got to Ephesus and we were not disappointed, it is well worth the visit and I would highly recommend Osman Tourism.

Unique insight into a "Biblical" ancient City.

A three hour coach journey (90 miles appx.) from Marmaris - including breakfast and lunch stops/meals. Tour price generally includes a visit to Ephesus Museum and entrance fee to the city.Unfortunately, most guided tours of the Ephesus site begin around 12.30pm!It's said "only mad dogs and englishmen go out in the mid-day sun"; this is definitely so in mid-July. The temperature was 44C in the shade and 50C in the sun!! This was excentuated by the marble-tiled streets and the entire absence of shade. The "too knowledgeable" tour guide must have thought he was preparing us for aMasters Degree in Archiology - as he spent around 20 minutes at each monument and a total of three and a half hours touring the site. For the first time in my life (69 years old) I suffered heat-stroke - even with wearing a wide-brimmed hat and drinking bottled water constantly.I left the site to a cafe at the exit half an hour before the tour ended! However - Ephesus is definitely worth a visit - but it would be best to arrange private transportation and arrive at the site no later than 10am. May or September would be better than June, July & August.Internet coverage of Ephesus is extensive and good pre-holiday research will enhance your enjoyment of the visit. The Library of Celsus, Temple of Hadrian, Gate of Hercules and the Theatre are worth spending time to explore.

Terrible Tour of Ephesus
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

I booked a private tour of Ephesus through About Ephesus as a day trip from our cruise ship. The cost was definitely cheaper for my family (family of 5). Our guide Ceyla Ergon was there to meet us but their was some confusion who our driver would be leaving us wait in the sun until it was decided. After entering the van, Ceyla outlined our tour informing us that we would go to Marys House, tour old Ephesus and then visit the village where we would see the art of carpet making. I informed Ceyla that we were not interested in purchasing any carpets. She reassured me that we would not be pressured into purchasing anything. As we drove, Ceyla asked if we had the opportunity to sample turkish delight. As we had not, she informed the driver to go to a store where we sampled the different candy, had tea and sampled different beauty products. The visit was fine.On our way to Marys House, she did give us some facts. My 10 yr old son began asking questions regarding Mary and her life in the area and Ceyla informed him that the information was all hypothetical. My son was taken aback and did not ask any more questions. When we arrived she walked us to the entrance and told us that she would not be going inside and we must meet back in 20 min, leaving enough time for the village. We quickly ran through the area, rushing at each site. Our visit to old Ephesus was also very rushed. Ceyla walked with us, explaining many of the different sites but not stopping. She explained that we were moving quickly due to time constraints as well as the heat. Looking back, it was definitely due to time constraints. We asked when we were finished at this location if we could stop and look at the shops and Ceyla told us that we would have plenty of time at the village so we continued on.On the way to the village, it was myself and my husband asking questions about different sites. Ceyla was not giving us much information at all however asked for payment before we arrived at the village as the office was located there. At the village (a 4 adjoining buildings), we were met by another gentleman and Ceyla was gone. He told us that women worked daily on the rugs and that this was their livelihood. He stressed that the sales of these rugs supported their families. When we asked questions regarding the rugs, he appeared annoyed and just wanted us to continue on. Finally, we were asked to join him in a room where food, drink and different rugs were presented to us. I informed them that we were not interested in purchasing any rugs and the sales pressure increased. Suddenly the owner of the carpet store appeared informing pressuring us also. When we finally went back to the van, we not only felt an enormous amount of guilt but incredibly annoyed. Ceyla also expressed her surprise that we did not purchase anything. On the way back to port, Ceyla did not speak to anyone but the Turkish driver. I definitely would not recommend this tour or this guide unless you are in the market to buy a carpet. I would also not recommend this tour for anyone who would like to have it adapted to their needs not the guides.

Amazing Ephesus

We booked a day tour of the Ephesus area with Osman Tourism (at About Ephesus Tours). They seem to have several web sites for the same tour company which was a little confusing at first but they had enough good reviews that I trusted them and the deposit was not that large. We arrived on a Celebrity cruise and we had no trouble finding them just to the right of the exit from the dock area. We had Gonca Kizilhan as a tour guide and she was great. She spoke good English, provided a lot of interesting information, and was very pleasant. She escorted us through most of the sites but also gave us some time on our own. We found Ephesus a fascinating place to visit. Our tour included the Terrace Houses and the Ephesus Museum which we found well worth the time and the climbing of many steps for the Terrace Houses. We had visited Pompeii a few days earlier and found Ephesus much better. Both were sunny and hot but Gonca knew where the few bit's of shade were at Ephesus. Ephesus seemed to handle the crowds better and we did not feel overwhelmed by the large tour groups and guides as we did at Pompeii. Some of the biblical history with St Paul's visit and Mary's house which we also visited made it even more interesting for us.The lunch at the rug factory site was very good and relaxing in their gardens. We found the explanation and viewing of the making of the rugs interesting but we might have showed to much interest since they showed a bit of a hard sell in trying to sell us a rug. I think you just need to be firm and say you are not interested if you do not want to consider buying a rug there.Overall the tour guide and driver were great and we had a very nice Mercedes minivan for the three of us. The price of this private tour for us was still less than the large bus tour offered by the cruise line and a much better value.

We booked a private tour to Ephesus with Osman Tourism and had the good fortune of having Arzu as our tour guide. Arzu was there to greet us on time, with a lovely driver and beautiful spacious car/van. Arzu's knowledge, passion, and warmth made this one of the best days of our 3 week trip. Thank you Arzu! :)

Wonderful time in Turkey

Based on the reviews here as well as Cruise Critic, we decided to use Ephesus Breeze for our tour in Turkey. They did a most fantastic job. Our guide, Mr. Ali, was wonderful and understanding with our small children. I'd be more than happy to recommend Ephesus Breeze to friends and family.

Testimonials & Reviews

Our Guide brought Ephesus to life for us & was extremely informative; we even had people listening to him & complimenting him on being a much better guide than theirs from other companies. He guided us expertly to be at the front of the queues & out of the heat as quickly as possible.”
