Best tour of the cruise
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

Four female friends cruising the mediterranean and hoping for a fabulous day in Ephesus. None of the tours offered through our cruise line looked like exactly what we wanted as we were hoping for something of a private nature that catered to our needs- no carpet lecture please!. We wanted to fit in the highlights of Ephesus, the home of the Virgin Mary, the Artemission Temple, St. John Basilica, an authentic Turkish lunch, and shopping that might be a bit different from what the regular cruise crew would see. Emre, our guide, understood what we wanted and adjusted our day to meet our needs. He was personable, knowledgeable and totally in tune with our group. He took us to his favorite restaurant for lunch, the shopping area that he and his fiance frequent on weekends and helped us avoid shopping where merchandise was not of the best quality. We took several tours during our seven day cruise and all four of us agreed that our Ephesus Tour was by far the best. It cost much less than was offered through Royal Caribbean. We had a large air conditioned van that could easily have accommodated 10 people . We had an entertaining guide, Emre, who charmed all of us, and we never had a doubt that we would make it back to our cruise on time. Although the cruise ship folks warn about booking tours other than the ones they offer, we found that the tours we enjoyed the most were the ones we booked independently. We did not have to pay until the tour was completed, something you do not get to do with the cruise tours. We could have cancelled or adjusted the tour at any time, and the accommodations on the tour itself were always better.

Excellent day out

We travelled as a group of 8 adults on our tour with Ephesus ToursI cannot speak highly enough of our guide Cidem. Cidem is very knowledgableand made our trip to Ephesus very enjoyable. The itinerary was planned beforehand and we got to see everything we wanted to. We spent quite a bit of time at the Terrace Houses which were absolutely amazing. (a must see). Cidem is very enthusiastic and a very diligent guide. Very easy to get along with and would highly recommend her. Our van was very comfortable with AC and well maintained. Our driver was professional and very friendly.A tour with Ephesus Tours will not disappoint

Our tour guide was so terrific and made our trip to Ephesus perfect. We can't wait to go back. The tour company is about speaks and our guide was Filiz Kizilhan. She asked what type of sights we were wanting to see and then made our tour exactly what we wanted. She was a delight and the Turkish lunch was delicious .

Awesome-totally worth the trip!

Must sees: Library of Ephesus Breeze, Great Theatre-largest theatre in antiquity- 24,000 seat capacity, open air bathrooms. Don't get a tour guide near the entrance to the ruins. Ours rushed us and was absolutley terrible. Take around 2-4 hours to walk around all the ruins. Also see the Terrace Houses (extra charge).

Ephesus Tours Was Amazing

Twelve of us arrived in Ephesus on an Eastern Mediterranean Royal Caribbean cruise. We were met at the Kusadasi Harbour by our tour guide Naciye Otar (Nadia). She was holding up a sign with our name. The tour was amazing. Nadia, our tour guide, was adept in English, funny, informative, very knowledgeable, and well informed of current events world wide. I was so impressed with her understanding of the world outside of Turkey that it brought Turkish history and culture, particularly Ephesus history, to a level that we easily understood and enjoyed. We had many highlights to our trip and Ephesus was on the top of our list.Ephesus Tours includes a meal at a Turkish rug maker. Turkish rugs are beautifully made and the demonstrations were fantastic. Do not feel like you have to buy, but if you are in the market for a rug, this is the place to go. The food in beyond belief - the Turkish 'sea weed' salad is unbelievably good.If you get the opportunity, go to Ephesus. Take a tour and enjoy a culture that wants to share its history and food with the world.

A must see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did this trip together with Pamukkale which was wonderful. Both amazing. The only thing to beware is the over night accomodation. This was substandard. Check what hotel you will be staying overnight as we found a lodger in our room. A GREAT BIG COCKROACH. Apart from that absolutely amazing. Ishmail our tour guide was brilliant. Thankyou Ishmail.

pleased but pushy carpet sales man made me uncomfortable

We were met and the cruise port in Kusadasi by our tour guide Gonya. Don't know if I'm spelling her name correctly. The tour van was very comfortable. We visited all the sites we had agreed on. The only thing is that the "carpet demonstration" was extremely uncomfortable. The man became somewhat upset when he realized we were not interested in buying any carpets. When you first come in they offer you apple tea or coffee and cheeze rolls. This was nice, but they have a very aggressive sales approach and you almost feel intimidated into buying a carpet. There were two of us in the room with the salesmen and it was extremely hard to get away from these people when you are alone in that room with them. If you go in a large group is probably easier to get away, but I would not want this experience again. It was very intimidating.

Best tour on the cruise

I arranged a private tour with aboutephesus.com. For Sept. 15, 2011 we booked a 6 hour tour and not only was the tour a great price but after the greek tour stuffed in a cab the VW Sprinter provided by aboutephasus.com was some surprise and with super AC to boot! The tour also came with a driver AND Tour guide. The guide, Gonge is a University trained guide whose knew her subject matter. AND the tour came with paid lunch and admissions to the sites - If you can take just one tour - take this one. HIGHLY recommened.

The name of our tour company is Osman Tourism. The tour website is https://ephesusbreeze.com. The name of our tour guide is Gonza Kizilhan. We took a full day private tour of Ephesus that includes the following itinerary:- The Temple of Artemis /Diana- The Ruins of Ephesus including * The Celsus Library, * The Temple of Hadrian, * The Fountain of Trajan, * The Temple of Domitian, * The Monument of Memnius * The Marble Street, * The Great Theater * The Odeon.- Ephesus Archeological Museum - Visiting The House of Virgin Mary- Traditional Lunch- Rug Making Demonstration- Porcelain Making DemonstrationThe tour van was Mercedes that can seat 12 people. The ride was very comfortable. There were 4 people in our group. Filiz picked us up from the cruise terminal. We were in a Mediterranean cruise. We made arrangements for the tour ahead of time.Gonca was very knowledgeable and explained very well the significance of each site. She took her time in explaining and answered our many questions. She also asked our opinion on what we wanted to see and made changes to the itinerary. We were scheduled to see the Terrace House but opted to see the Archaeologica Museum instead. The lunch served was very good. The rug making demonstration did not have a high pressure sales.I highly recommend Filiz and Osman Tourism.

Testimonials & Reviews

Wishing to avoid the high costs charged by a cruise line for a visit to the ancient sites of Ephesus and having read previous Trip Advisor reviews, we e-mailed Ephesus Tours to arrange a private tour. Met us exactly as promised on arrival and the guide that they provided us was excellent with fluent English.”
