Top Tour Guide for Ephesus
stars 5 out of 5, Reviewed on

With a choice of 9 ports of call on our recent cruise, we were happily surprised that Ephesus topped the sites visited. Kudos to Selda Akyigit of Osman Tourism (https://ephesusbreeze.com) for her personable, knowledgable and leisurely pace througout the visit! Despite rain and cool temperatures, this day was spectacular. Unlike other historical sites, one is invited to walk in the shoes of the ancient people, touch their extraordinary carvings, really immerse into the incredible history of this memorable adventure. Although I was dreading the mandatory visit to the carpet making school, it proved to be another highlight to our excellent day. Additional learning was not what I was in store for and happily received. The provided lunch was authentic and freshly served. If you decide to make this visit, request Selda - and wear non-skid shoes for traversing the beautiful but slick marble pathways of Ephesus. I hope you enjoy as much as we savored this beautiful ancient wonder.

Great Tour

I had searched through the trip advisor reviews and after narrowing the choices down to a few, I sent emails asking for prices and options to create a private tour for our shore excursion. After looking at the options, About Ephesus was the choice and I was very happy with the decision. I was able to take a standard tour and customize it and it was less than half the price of the group tour shore excursion offered by our cruise. We met our private guide and driver as soon as we got off the ship. We first started with a drive out to the Virgin Mary's House. Along the drive, we learned some interesting facts about the region and Turkey in general. Then, we reached Mary's house and toured the site- very interesting. Then it was off to Ephesus where we had a leisurely and informative tour through the amazing ruins. Make sure to get the added tour of the terrace houses. This is the most well preserved ancient ruins ever discovered. After our amazing tour, we were off to a traditional turkish lunch and toured a government sponsored rug factory and showroom. We got an interesting tour of how these beautiful hand made rugs are made. It was actually very interesting although you do have to endure a bit of a sales pitch at the end of the tour. Then it was off to St John's Basilica and the Temple of Artimis to finish the tour. We had about 1/2 an hour to spare, so we explored the markets around Kusadasi before heading back to the ship. The tour was incredible and a highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this tour company as they were very professional and the price was very reasonable.

Gonca Kizilhan of www.aboutephesus spent the day making our trip to Ephesus memorable beyond words!

We were on a Celebrity Cruise with our 24 year old daughter and the day we spent with Filiz in Ephesus, Kusadasi, and traveling in that region was FABULOUS. Filiz was amazingly informative, got us to Mary's House before the long bus lines got there, shared her personal knowledge of history as well as mythology and created a delightful day for us. For us, the tour guide and that air conditioned van made a huge difference. It was the favorite day of our cruise!

Must See!

Impressive and extensive ruins that you actually walk through and can touch, Not like ruins in Rome that are fenced or roped off to keep you from touching anything. An offered side tour within Ephesis are the Terrace Houses which are enclosed in a large shelter and which you walk through or over on scaffolding. Amazing views of ceramic tiled floors. Crowding was not bad but at peak season has got to be jammed with people. At end of tour are many souvenir shops, food, and rest rooms. Female Turkish guide was exccellent and referred to our group[ as "my people". Ruins although large, are only 10% uncovered with work continuing every day. A slow process. Not too difficult a walk as its mostly downhill.

Osman Tourism gave us the best possible tour in Ephesus

I arranged a tour through Aboutephesus before going on a Mediterrian cruise. I had 8 other people join the group through cruise critic and everyone in the group was so pleased with the tour which included ephesus, the terrace houses, home and burial site of Mary , the Bacilica of St John and a wonderful homemade lunch served outside family style. The company was very easy to work with and our guide Evid was great. I wish he had told the group where the public bath and toilets were at Ephesus so if our group wanted to see this area we could have done so instead of spending time at the library. But in spite of this everyone was pleased and would highly recommend this tour company and Evid our guide.

Take a taxi and save

We landed in Kusadasi, Turkey and took a taxi to Mary's house, Ephesus and temple Artemis. We paid $20 US for a 4 hour trip an saw evrything we wanted as the driverwas both english speaking an very knowledgeable. The three sites are self explanatory and the entry fees are very reasonable- 8 TL for the Mary's house, 20 TL for Ephesus an the temple was free.

About Ephesus Tours Can Be Trusted For Ephesus and Istanbul

Valentia and the rest of her copany were a pleasure to work with and I will highly recommend you and Ephesus Breeze. Valentina answered all of my e mails personally within one day and made every accommodation I requested. I have never made tour arrangements exclusively by e mail but she made it simple and secure. My biggest question was whether we could modify the standard website tour offerings. They customized our tours exactly to our liking and we were made aware that we could also make changes on the day of the tour. The tour guides were top flight. Ali Emrah AK toured us through Ephesus, Mary’s house and John’s church, etc. and Cumhur Numan Tasdogan guided us through the entire city of Istanbul. Both guides were warm, personable and had tremendous command of the English language, answering every question we had and squeezing as much information as they could into the time allotted. They were both punctual and waiting in the respective port. Also, we felt very safe while touring with them.

Excellent, informative tour!

We were travelling on a cruise ship with 3 couples and booked a private tour with About Ephesus Tours. Our tour guide Muge Yesildag was great! She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had. Even though it was very crowded in Ephesus, Muge seemed to get us to each place before the big crowds arrived! We would definitely recommend this company and tour guide, and Turkey of course!

Best Tour of them all!

We spent a day at Ephesus with a Ms Cigdem of the tour company . I have had many tours and we found this tour company the best we have encountered. We were traveling on to Urgup and she was so helpful in finding us a hotel and things to do.They were also helpful in tours of Istanbul. They are very efficient and get back to you quickly. The tour van was comfortable and the driver got thru all of the traffic in a breeeze.Good company

We decided to sidestep the expensive tour offered by Celebrity Cruises and hire our own driver and guide through About Ephesus Tours. It is easy to book the tour online and required just a minimal deposit. What a deal! For $150 the two of us had a private car, driver and tour guide. Our tour guide, Gurkan Nakipolu, had a major in tourism and history. He met us at our ship and whisked us away for an awesome day. Gurkan was so knowledgeable of what we were seeing and the history behind. We toured all Ephesus had to offer and had a great traditional lunch in the backyard of a school for rug making, which we also toured with the owner. This is an impressive operation that I would recommend to anyone, and at a very attractive price.

Testimonials & Reviews

Wishing to avoid the high costs charged by a cruise line for a visit to the ancient sites of Ephesus and having read previous Trip Advisor reviews, we e-mailed Ephesus Tours to arrange a private tour. Met us exactly as promised on arrival and the guide that they provided us was excellent with fluent English.”
